Finding the Break through Disappointments

  1. Thanks for sharing this, Liz.

Although I didn't have aspirations of being a German translator, I too went to Germany. Much to my disappointment, I discovered that I really didn't have a natural knack for speaking German. It was depressing for how long I had felt like I had been studying it.

I totally love your comment about breakdowns and breakthroughs. Though I learned that I wasn't brilliant at SPEAKING German, I realized that I have a passion for European culture, traveling, history, and literature; all things that I am pursuing or making hobbies out of now and that I wouldn't have fully realized had I not gone to Germany.

  2. Can you please send this to Ensign magazine? They would kill for an article like this (metaphorically).

Your story and insights tie in beautifully with President Hinckley's statement, "We're all in the Lord's hands." As long as we move forward the best we can, He will lead us to the things that make us truly happy.

  3. Yes, what is the difference between a breakdown and a break through? Anything that has the potential to afford some sorely needed, new perspective could be a good thing. I'm just glad to hear that you responded to it so well. It is too easy to let that cripple you, when change is what is really needed.
