Amen. All this talk about assigning meaning makes me think of The Crying of Lot 49, which makes me think assigning meaning is a very fluid thing, which could be a good thing or a bad thing because we could make every experience valuable by assigning meaning to it or we could assign too much meaning to everything and life would get very confusing, like this 9 line sentence.
Nathan, if I liked baseball, I would totally say that you hit a home run with this one. Not only was it incredibly entertaining to read (and look at--nice picture), there was substance to it that I can definitely understand. Life isn't just about the big things, it's about the little events. When we MAKE those events into experiences, they can have a positive impact on us--we just need to let them. Searching for meaning and making every experience (and event) worth while is a fabulous goal!
Nathan, I am really impressed with your post! You should have seen the first WACs of everyone who was on the council last semester (including myself)--none of them looked this good. I liked the quote you included from the article. it was one I looked at myself. I thought about how we all were reading the same article, yet we all have different responses to it because there were different salient points for each of us.
Way to be, Nate! I agree with Erica- the rest of us had a whole semester to come up with something this good. I also love the image of the hamburger-eater: it was a good analogy. Food always leads to good analogies...
Haha, this WAC put a big smile on my face. It was really energetic and uplifting.
It's kinda funny, because when I first saw that picture of Hamburger Man, it reminded me of a time my roommates did the Fuddruckers Challenge (eat lots of food for a T-Shirt). They should have worn helmets...
Great words. Let's learn from all our experiences, big and small.
Nathan, you crack me up! This post really made my day. Also, I completely agree with everyone else in saying kudos to you on your first post. It looks great!
Great use of color and picture in your wak! I was captivated! I truly believe that there can be lessons that each one of us can learn from our everyday experiences and events. For me personally i think that i seem to think about these events on a daily basis. I am one to think and analyze almost anything that happened in my day, but i think for me to really achieve what you were talking about is to write those feelings down. I think that is the next step to keeping those things that you once learned and write them in your heart and mind.
